Abstract No. 23 is pure momentum. Broad sweeps of ochre and marigold yellow cut across a pale gray ground, while dark circular strokes coil through the lower half of the canvas like something caught mid-spin. Flecks of red, white and cobalt are flung across the surface, and a single sharp wedge of blue anchors the top corner against all that motion.
I paint with the canvas laid flat, which lets the paint spatter and pool where it lands. That spontaneity is the point of this piece. Your eye never settles in one place for long, and that restlessness makes a 16 x 16 inch canvas feel far bigger than it is.
At this size it works best where you can see it up close: a reading nook, a home office, a narrow wall beside a doorway, or grouped with other small works.
